‘Fake greenery can get a little dusty around the home - but can be difficult to clean, with so many spiky bits and leaves,’ says cleaning expert Margot Jones. ‘But putting them into your dishwasher on a cold rinse cycle will have them looking like brand new in no time.
‘And the same goes for tired old thongs - they’ll look like you just brought them home from the store!’
Other items that can get a new lease of life thanks to your dishwasher include vacuum attachments, nail clippers, toothbrush holders and shower caddies, kitchen sponges and your fridge crisper drawers.
You can also give your kids’ plastic toys a really good clean in the dishwasher - making them safe for little mouths! - and the rotating plate in your microwave.
‘Once you start cleaning one thing in your dishwasher, you’ll never stop,’ Margot says. ‘Of course it’s never wise to clean thongs and plants in the same batch as your plates and cups - a little common sense goes a long way.
‘But there is a whole world of possibilities that will have your dishwasher doing much more of your cleaning work for you!’
