It’s since been confirmed that the supermarket will go ahead on the old Caroma bathroom factory site, creating much-needed jobs for locals - not to mention lots of budget shopping!
But in other news, it’s been revealed that ALDI in the NSW town of Yass will close for 11 days for renovations. The store announced that it will close its doors from Sunday, April 28 to Thursday, May 9, to make way for new shelving, larger produce displays and energy efficient chillers.
Local mum Janine Hardy said the closure meant she’d have to stock up on produce, given that she usually shops at the store three times a week.
"The other local supermarkets are more expensive," Janine told the Yass Tribune. "I think it's good that Aldi is doing renovations; it just means I need to be more organised."
It’s a similar story for ALDI in the Victorian city of Ararat. The store will close for two weeks from April 28 to May 11 to make way for the same refurbishments.
But while local ALDI fans will no doubt be disappointed, a spokeswoman for the supermarket said it was an ‘exciting’ time.
"Low prices are a big deal for ALDI. In fact, we refuse to be beaten on price. This is our fundamental point of difference and one we will never give away," she told The Stawell Times-News.
"We're excited to be undertaking these upgrades and welcome the community to visit our new store from Saturday 11th of May, and share their feedback about the store experience."
