The whole world is talking about the 50-cent coin sink hack - and you need to do it NOW.
You might think you have scrubbed every bit of leftover food or grime from your kitchen sink, but there might be a whole a lot of germs and bacteria lurking underneath that you didn’t even know about…
Though your sink may seem perfectly clean to the naked eye, did you know that there are all sorts of dreaded germs hiding in plain sight?
A recent article in the Sun UK has found a Mum who has “discovered loads of mouldy food trapped under her kitchen sink plughole after prising open with a 50p coin”
Luckily for us, there are people out there who are EXTRA- meticulous about cleaning and have given us a great kitchen cleaning hack.
The mum was first discovered on the famous Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook Group and revealed how horrified she was she opened the plughole with the coin and saw all the gunk underneath.
The woman was actually inspired by a fellow member of the cleaning group and saying, “Thank you to the person who posted about the 50p in the sink trick.
"I've never seen or smelt something so bad."
Like most of us, the mum thought she was maintaining a clean sink with all the food and gunk being washed down, not realising that in fact, it has all been building up under the plug hole – yuck!
“After using the coin to prise open the plug and unscrew the bolt in the middle, the mum then gave the area a deep clean before posting the shocking before-and-after photos online.” Says the article.
Another woman who implemented this 50-cent coin sink hack said she was “actually ashamed” to share the photos of her filthy plug. She expressed, "I took people's advice and I'm so happy I've done it."
"Used a 50p to unscrew the plug bit and a scrubbing brush to clean, make sure there is something propped under the pipes so there is no leaking water."
She posts a “before” “after” picture with the 50 cent coin in sight adding, “I'll definitely be doing this on the regular."
It’s not just the feeling of cleaning out your filthy sink that will bring you gratification, but the grimy build-up might also be the answer to that pungent smell in your kitchen. One person commented, “ My whole kitchen kept smelling and I couldn't understand why."
"I've now cleaned [out the plug] and the smell has gone, amazing."
Well, we know what we’ll be doing over the weekend!
