For Game of Thrones fans, it’s going to be a long time between drinks as we wait for Season 8 to screen in 2019. A brewery in the United States aims to ease that pain with the release of their new Game of Thrones-inspired brews.
The fresh quartet of beers from New York’s Ommegang Brewery is called the Game of Thrones Royal Reserve Collection, and joins the already popular Game of Thrones line of beers that have been released to coincide with previous seasons.
This year’s collection of craft beers will slake the thirst of GoT fans with the Hand of the Queen barleywine ale, and the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, an aptly named sour blonde ale modelled on Cersei Lannister.
*clink* Queen of the Seven Kingdoms is the second of four special beers in the @GameOfThrones-inspired Royal Reserve Collection. Inspired by Cersei Lannister, this exceptional blend of Belgian sour ale & Belgian-style blonde ale will be available on 6/29. https://t.co/J4qKVjuALK pic.twitter.com/DTeoFE5Zd4— Brewery Ommegang (@BreweryOmmegang) April 4, 2018
Ommegang Brewery president Doug Campbell said in a statement, “Cersei is a complex character, and we’ve tried to emulate that profile with this beer, which blends a lovely, dry blonde ale with a subtly tart Belgian sour.”
There is even some debate as to whether the brewers are in on a plot line, suggesting that the beer represents a blend of Cersei and Daenerys, as they duel it out for the seat on the throne.
And just like George RR Martin leaves us hanging between books, the Ommegang gang are staggering the releases of the new range, with the Hand of the Queen landing in April, the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms hitting shelves in June, and the final two brews arriving in October and December. Sadly for Australian fans, the beers are only available in the United States.
