While many people have very specific ideas on what should and shouldn’t be on a pizza - the pineapple debate still rages on strong! - we think we can all agree that there’s one ingredient that most definitely doesn’t belong on the Italian classic ... Christmas candy canes.
But that didn’t stop one American man from doing just that - and it just about sent the Internet into meltdown.
David Sanchez posted the candy cane and Santa lolly pizza to Twitter last Christmas, and it’s doing the rounds again as a lesson of what NO to do this festive season.
The, er, creative home chef used a DiGiornio bas with cheese for his masterpiece, topping it with the peppermint candy canes and Christmas lollies before baking it in the oven. And we have to admit, we are pretty impressed with how the hard candy melted as a topping.
David uploaded his creation to Twitter, and the responses were almost as funny as the pizza itself!
Even the company who made the pizza base got in on the social media action, giving their two cents worth on David’s candy cane pizza.
Ha! But of course the big question on everyone’s lips is, what the pizza TASTED like? We think no-one would be surprised that to know that David was not a fan. ‘Well, uh, never again,’ he told radio station 101WKQX. ‘But I think everyone should try it.’
Hmmmmmm, maybe not David!
