It’s the money-saving phenomenon that’s going wild across social media - and we can see why!
Thousands of Australians are doing the 2019 $5 Challenge, where people are encouraged to stash away any $5 notes they come across in a secret spot.
The idea is that at the end of the year, you could have hundreds or even thousands saved - as long as you’re not tempted to dip into your $5 kitty!
Says the organisers: ‘The aim of this challenge is to put away all $5 notes received. Any notes broken and you receive a $5 bill put them away too.
Save all your $5 notes for an entire year, DO NOT SPEND OR COUNT UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE CHALLENGE. Are you game to try?’
First posted on the awesome Markdown Addicts Australia page, many followers said they’ve done it in previous years - and it works!
Said one: ‘I started this at beginning of January. Currently have $170. Can’t wait to go until the end of the year and see what I end up with.’
Added another: ‘I have done it and have nearly saved $2,000!’
A third said: ‘We’re already up to $230 - and it’s only February!’
But with our cashless society, some said it would be hard to do.
Said one: ‘I really want to do it, but I never have cash on me! Maybe now is a good time to start ...’
