‘There are two McDonald’s 2km from my house on the Gold Coast,’ wrote one fan on Reddit. ‘One of them charges 60 cents and the other charges 85 cents - both are in residential suburbs, both really busy. It makes no sense to me, and annoys me that there can be such a big price hike when they’re just a few kilometres apart.’
Said another commenter: ‘I wonder if people even realise they’re paying more.’
Another revealed: ‘I don't care how much it is now or will be in the future, it will ALWAYS be called a 30 cent cone.’ Ha!
McDonald’s have addressed queries about price discrepancy on their website, admitting that some stores are charging more than others.
‘We’ve always set recommended prices for our company-owned restaurants,’ they wrote. ‘However, with more than 70% of restaurants owned and operated by franchisees, our licensed restaurants will always have the power to set their own pricing.’
