Best Deep Fryers: We Review the Top Three in Australia

Your one-stop shop for deep fryers! - by April Glover
  • 06 Nov 2019

Australia has a big range of good quality deep fryers - so it can be difficult to chose the best one.

With a top-tier fryer, you don’t need to be a masterchef to cook delicious, fried food which tastes incredible.

Deep frying at home doesn’t necessarily have to be unhealthy. If you want to cook your food in an oil that isn’t so fatty, try coconut oil, palm oil or peanut oil instead of fat.

But before you start cooking up a storm, this is exactly how to use a deep fryer.

1. Fill the deep fryer with oil.

2. Turn it on and wait for it to reach the appropriate heat level. (Ideal temp is 176–190°C).

3. Ensure your food is dry and lower it in slowly and carefully.

4. Set a timer and wait for it to cook.

5. Carefully remove the fried food from the oil.

6. Let the food sit and dry.

7. Switch off your deep frier and enjoy your food!

Our deep fryer buying guide reviews and compares five fryers with different price points, capacities and features so you can pick the best one for your deep frying needs.

Best Deep Fryers: We Review the Top Three in Australia

OUR TOP PICKS

TEFAL - FR8040 - OLEOCLEAN PRO DEEP FRYER - $169

PROS: This fryer cooks delicious, restaurant-quality fried food and is great for foods including fires, crumbed chicken or fish, battered fish, potato gems or even deep-fried ice cream.

It also has a sophisticated oil cleaning feature and it literally filters the oil itself.

With this model, you can check on the progress of your tempura through its viewing window.

And, the Tefal FR8040 features an electrical thermostat, allowing you to monitor the oil temperature with precision.

CONS: The basket doesn’t have a huge capacity and is only big enough to fry one piece of schnitzel at a time.

Other reviewers note the maximum temperature is 190 degrees.

The Tefal - FR8040 - OCLEOCLEAN PRO DEEP FRYER is available in Australia in Bing Lee or at The Good Guys.

This fryer has a 1.2kg food capacity and 4L oil capacity.

It has an average food capacity of 1.25kg and 4L for oil and is on the cheaper side of under $100.

CONS: This model doesn’t have non-stick coating, some complain the numbers on the thermostat dial tend to fade with time and cleaning the basket can be difficult if you use crumbing.
