Love a bargain? Well you’re not alone - with thousands of Aussies taking advantage of the Woolworths and Coles flash sales and 1/2 price grocery deals when they pop up.
Well now a group of Aussie shoppers have taken their markdown obsession a step further by setting up ‘garage supermarkets’ in their homes.
That’s right, when they see significant savings on popular items - particularly cleaning and toiletry items that you will ALWAYS need - more and more Aussies are stockpiling the items in their garage and cupboards so they can have them for the months and years ahead.
The new trend means you’re paying lowest price possible on an item - instead of the RRP if you buy it as you need it in store. Clever.
The ‘Garage Supermarket’ trend was recently discussed in a post on the awesome Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, after one woman revealed how her home was turning into a ‘mini supermarket’.
Sharing a pic of her stash of dishwashing liquids - bought at bargain prices - Markdown Addicts follower Brodie wrote: ‘Let the stockpiling begin *evil laughs til I’m delirious*! Half price is fun! I paid $10.75 for all this!
‘I don’t want my house to look like I’m doomsday prepping or a hoarders!!!! I want it to look like my sweet little muvas!
‘Her cupboards look like a mini supermarket so cute! She knows what they like!! And they never run out!! All her labels face the front too!! Lil supermarket in your own kitchen hehe! At 34Finally understanding mums OCD 😂😂’
The post sparked a wave of hundreds of comments from other shoppers who do the same thing.
Said one: ‘Love it, love it!! My partner built huge cupboards in my garage exactly for this purpose!! Not OCD. Perfectly normal.😂’
Added another: ‘I have mine out of shelves in the garage never paying full price again. My husband will be like we are out of toothpaste and I’ll say plenty in the garage supermarket.’
Said a third: ‘I’m like this too. I love when i have multiples like a little mini supermarket. Stresses me out when my stock gets low!’
Another shopper said she had a whole bedroom in her home with shelves, dedicated to all her bargain finds.
Added one more: ‘I had 15 under my sink, as well as 15 foam hand soaps😂, the chemist had them both for $1 each, it was too crazy not to stock up ( along with other items). I NEVER buy some things full price and have stock piles of soap, dishwashing liquid, TP, body wash, shampoo/conditioner, razors, coffee, washing power/softener, toothpaste/brushes plus heap of other stuff.’
Said another: ‘I do this, if they are cheap I stock up, dishwashing liquid, shampoo, conditioner, all that stuff, hubby thought I was absolutely nuts, but when we fell on real hard times... he was great full we didn’t have to buy all this stuff cause we had plenty.’
