Added another Markdown Addicts member: ‘Yeah I was told to keep coming back because there’s going to be a huge amount of freezer clearance items.’
Another social media user, meanwhile, confirmed that they’d been told it was ‘Australia-wide’ and could last for weeks.
One of the most popular theories that it was because Bird’s Eye products were being phased out of Coles stores, leading to massive price cuts on the whole range - however these claims haven’t been confirmed.
Said one Markdown Addicts Australia follower: ‘Coles are dropping birds eye as a product source entirely. They will have a new look Coles brand and continue to stock other brands.’ Adds another: ‘They're dropping birds eye completely at Coles.’
However another Coles staff member said the month-long sale was due to ‘new layouts’.
She writes: ‘I also work for Coles, my job is clearance/ deleted lines and new product layouts. The reasoning behind this reduction is there is new layouts to be implemented within the next 4 weeks.’
Either way, it looks like we have a month of serious freezer food reductions ahead of us. As well as the 98 cent Birds Eye chips, either shoppers have reported seeing Pommies and other frozen good reduced to just 50 cents.
‘I’ll need a third freezer 😂😂,’ wrote one follower.
