JUST IN: It’s been revealed that the Australian Federal Government will give a $125 handout to just under four million Aussies in need.
The one-off payment will be included in Tuesday's budget in a desperate bid to relieve the strain caused by soaring power prices.
The $125 payment will be given to around 3.9million people who are either aged pensioners, single parents, veterans, carers and people who receive the disability support pension.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the estimated $285 million pay cheque will see eligible singles take home $75 and couples and couples score $125 before July.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the Energy Assistance Payment would be a welcomed relief for many Aussies who are doing it tough.
'It will particularly support older people living in NSW, with the payments to be provided to more than 760,000 people on the age pension,' he told the Daily Telegraph.
