A man who had just bought an $11 million island has been arrested amid claims he tried to steal $420 in kitchen products from Kmart.
Police say Andrew Francis Lippi took part in an elaborate theft that saw him buy a range of Kmart products - including a coffee maker and light bulbs.
He then attempted to return the items for refunds - but with different products inside each box. For example, when Kmart staff opened the coffee box they found a basketball inside - not the coffee machine.
Store officials say they have video of the man buying and returning all the items over a week-long period, prompting Lippi to be charged with theft and jailed. He was also issued a trespass warning to stay away from Kmart, before being released a few days later.
But in a bizarre twist, it’s been revealed that Lippi is very well off. The Miami Herald reports that the Florida man recently bought Thompson Island - a sprawling, five-star estate - off Key West for $AU11.2 million.
He also owns the luxurious ‘Real World’ waterfront property in Key West, where MTV shot an entire season back in 2006.

In a bizarre twist, the man had bought this $11 million island just prior to the alleged Kmart theft.
Lippi has denied the charges, telling detectives that he did not swap out any of the items before returning them. According to the arrest report, he told detectives that Kmart staff should’ve realised there was no coffee maker inside the box due to its weight when he purchased it.
He also told cops he returned the light bulbs without opening them because they were too expensive.
