Just a year after going into liquidation and closing all stores, Toys R Us and Babies R Us have announced they are relaunching in Australia.
The return of the iconic brand follows a new deal with Hobby Warehouse, after the retailer reached an agreement with Toys R Us’ US parent company Tru Kids.
They’ve announced Toys R Us and Babies R Us’s new online store will be open from June 12 for customers in Australia and New Zealand - and new stores will be open later this year.
However it’s been revealed that the toy giant will be moving away from the large-format warehouse-style stores we’ve come to know and expect at Toys R Us, and will instead open "small and fewer physical 'experience centres' that allow children and their families and friends" to play with the toys.
The shock return of the toy giant comes after 700 people lost their jobs when Toys R Us and Babies R Us closed all stores in July last year.
Of the new online store, Toys R Us say: ‘A select range of toys will be available on our site which you can buy from day one [June 12]. We plan to have the widest range of toys available in Australia later this year and will add a range of payment options in the coming weeks.’
