While we’re constantly seeing articles announcing that coffee is bad for you (like that will stop us!) CSIRO have invented a cup of joe for green thumbs – a broccoli latte.
There’s one serving of broccoli in every two tablespoons of this ingenious powder, which is dense with nutrients. It’s made with vegies that don’t make the cut for market, meaning it’s also reducing farm-related waste.
Chief executive of Hort Innovation, John Lloyd, worked with CSIRO on developing the broccoli powder.
“Research shows the average Australian is still not eating the recommended daily intake of vegetables a day, and options such as broccoli powder will help address this,” he said.
He suggested it can also be used in soups, smoothies and baking.
The next steps are to take it into further product development and consumer evaluation trials – so it might take a little while for it to appear on shelves at your local Woolies.
And, if you're struggling to get the little ones to eat their vegies – try this ultra-cute hidden vegetable soup that will also keep them warm this winter!
