Style Guru Claims Large breasts are ‘out of fashion’

And the backlash was palpable

A Twitter poll with over 34,806 votes about cleavage and whether or not it’s “over”, by British Vogue, has sent the Twitterverse into a meltdown recently.

Over 67% of total poll participants agreed that flaunting what you’re born with is a must, though if what columnist Kathleen Baird-Murray insinuated is to be believed, readers are understanding that it’s the season’s un-hottest new accessory.

Users were quick to jump on the poll and the article it referenced, saying that it undermined women’s bodies and fuels an idea that that women with larger breasts are somehow “out of fashion”.

The author of the ill-received article has since responded to the issue surrounding the controversial post and its story on Twitter, clarifying that the piece is not a comment about breasts being stylish or not, rather examining how sporting cleavage over the years has been both embraced and subdued.

Kathleen told Bustle“I welcome discussion, I welcome differences of opinion, we really need these in our society and in an age where image is more important than ever before — rightly, or wrongly. I am really happy that the article has been hijacked and turned into something bigger than a fashion story, but it’s unfortunate that while it’s been thought provoking, it’s based on a misconception that Vogue is somehow saying that anyone with a large chest needs to stay at home for the next few years and hang their heads in shame — sorry folks, that’s not what the story’s about, not even close.”
