Posting a pic of the two packets (above) - one with six packs and the other with five - at home, Melinda also shared a pic showing both varieties on sale at the same Coles supermarket (at top of page).
She adds: ‘I bought from Woolworths. This is at Coles.’
Melinda’s post fired up many other shoppers on the popular group.
‘I noticed popcorn packs I buy for me daughter have reduced in size and increased in price. I don’t like it,’ wrote one. Added another: ‘They change the size and keep the price the same in the hope we don’t notice.’
Said a third: ‘The bulk packs are now 10 instead os 12 a well.’
Added another: ‘But did anyone notice the weight went from 108g down to 90g?’
But other shoppers weren’t as surprised, saying it’s a growing trend with many companies.
‘It’s their alternative to raising rices. A great example is Cadbury. All of their sizes have changed. Where the blocks use to be 250g (including some where they were ‘10% bigger’), they’ve now gone down to 200/220g,’ said one shopper. Added another: ‘If they don’t do this, they’ll need to keep the same size and up the prices, then people still complain. They can’t win either way.’
