Many Coles customers have shared their epic hauls on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook page today - with some revealing that they picked up mince and sausages for as little as $1!
Said one Coles shopper: ‘Heaps of cheap meats like crazy prices I’ve never seen before like really they literally started at $1.’
Added another: ‘I just got [99 cent mince] 10 mins ago and there was pork sausages for 99c too.’
Said a third: ‘I’ve bought three lots of discounted mince now and have an entire shelf full of it in the freezer.’
Added one more: ‘I got mince for 2.40 last night. I've never seen meat cheap like this either haha it's great.’
Said another: ‘I got 1kg mince for $4.27 today instead of $10!!!!’
Shoppers suggested that the flash meat sale - which only appears to be in some stores - was the result of the supermarket having excess stock as coronavirus panic buying starts to ease off.
Said one: ‘A lot of stores over ordered to meet the demand of panic buyers but now that people have come their senses they need to sell the stock fast before they expire.’
Added another: ‘It's happening a lot. Thanks to all the panic buying all stores auto stock has sent way more than they usually need and they are way over supplied.. I'm not complaining 😁’
The shoppers were quick to point out that the sales don’t appear to be in all stores, and it’s simply ‘luck of the draw’ to see if your local Coles has such significant markdowns.
A Coles spokesperson tells New Idea Food: “As demand begins to normalise some stores have extra stock to clear, some have a lot and some have a little…… get in quick!”
