Captured by Nine journalist Seb Costello and shared on Twitter, it’s the very heartbreaking consequences of Australia’s coronavirus panic buying crisis which has left supermarket aisles bare of essential items.
And despite the best efforts of Coles and Woolworths to do more for our most vulnerable shoppers - including dedicated shopping hours and priority home delivery - it seems some are our elderly are still suffering.
'This captures who is suffering from the me-first, unnecessary, trend of panic buying,' wrote Seb on Twitter, adding that the woman was ‘in tears’.
It wasn’t long before Twitter users condemned shoppers who are ‘hoarding’ groceries when there are people in need.
Said one: 'This really breaks my heart, the elderly have already given to society, why aren't we looking after them?? We will be them sooner than we realise. Bring in rationing....please let's look after the vulnerable.'
Added another: 'I am so disappointed with our country at the moment, especially our blatant disregard for our senior citizens,' added another.
