The message on the website read: 'Thanks for your patience! You’re in the queue.
'We’re experiencing a high volume of traffic due to COVID-19, so we’re trialing a queuing system. When it’s your turn, you’ll have as much time as you need (as long as you aren’t inactive for more than 20 minutes).
One message supplied to New Idea Food told one shopper that they’d arrived at the site at 7.09pm and ‘your estimated wait time is: 3 minutes.’
Not surprisingly, the move hasn’t gone down well with many of Kmart’s fans who took to social media with complaints.
'It's 2020, pay for better servers,' said one. Added another: ‘I can't believe you people. Making us queue to shop online.’
Said a third: ‘The queuing online system is a fail as after I was finally allowed into your site I was bumped off after less than three minutes.'
Added one more: 'What sweet hell is this?'
