Coronavirus lockdown list: Gyms, cinemas, churches & casinos will also close across Australia tomorrow
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has ordered a wide range of venues - including pubs, restaurants and cafes across Australia to close as of tomorrow.
As of midday Monday, the following venues have been ordered to close their doors across Australia: pubs, clubs, licensed premises within hotels, gyms, indoor sporting venues, entertainment venues, cinemas, casinos, restaurants, restaurants, cafes, churches and other places of worship.
Restaurants and cafes will still be able to offer a takeaway service under the new restrictions.
It’s hoped the extreme move will help stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus in Australia. The Prime Minister announced the decision after meeting with state and territory leaders on Sunday night.
'I am deeply regretful that those workers and those business owners who will be impacted by this decision will suffer the economic hardship that undoubtedly they will now have to face,' the prime minister said.
'That is a very, very regretful decision. But a necessary one in the view of the premiers and chief ministers and myself to ensure that we can control the spread of this virus.'
