Ethiopian Airlines flight carrying 149 customers and eight crew members has crashed

An Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi has crashed with 149 passengers and eight crew members aboard a Boeing 737-800 MAX, a spokesman for the airline said in an official statement.

Flight ET 302 which had only been up for a short while, crashed near the town of Bishoftu, 62 kilometres southeast of the capital Addis Ababa, the airline shared.

“It is confirmed it happened 8.44 (am),” revealed the spokesman.

The airline said in a statement said: “search and rescue operations are in progress and we have not confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties.”

Shortly after the devastating crash, the Ethiopian prime minister’s office sent condolences to the families of those lost in the crash via Twitter.

The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning.
