Food delivery app horror: “28% of riders confess to eating customers’ orders”

Feeling like ordering in tonight? Read this!

We all have horror stories about food app deliveries going wrong: drivers who mysteriously cancel the delivery seconds from your front door, or seconds after leaving the restaurant, stone cold food and ‘forgotten’ items.

But the truth about food app deliveries is even more traumatic than your suspicions, with many of the notoriously overworked and underpaid workers confessing to dipping their hands into what’s meant to be yours.

According to a US survey, twenty per cent of food app users in that country suspect that deliverers have eaten some of their orders.

But the truth is worse than even their most fevered assumptions, because there are more light-fingered and starving riders than anyone suspected. An astounding 28 per cent of delivery drivers reportedly confessed in the American survey to eating parts of customers’ orders.

Fifty-four percent of those respondents said they ‘couldn’t resist the smell’.

With paranoid customers thinking the worst, 85 per cent of those surveyed said they want restaurants to start using tamper-proof containers.

Seventeen percent of those surveyed complained of regularly cold food, 16% moaned about frequently lateness, and 12% received completely wrong orders.

While the survey relates to the American food delivery industry, some Aussie app users will now be wondering if similar applies Down Under.

But customers aren’t the only ones complaining. ‘Of the nearly 500 deliverers we surveyed, topping the list [of complaints] is weak tips, food not being ready at the restaurant, and lack of communication with customers,’ researchers noted.

But despite it all, we’re going to keep ordering – and we’re sure you will too!
