Today host Georgie Gardner has revealed that she and Karl Stefanovic have nothing but ‘love and respect’ for one another following his axing from the show in December.
In a new interview with Stellar, the journalist insists ‘there was never any hate’.
‘There was never any hate… We have a very solid friendship. There’s love, there’s respect, there’s a lot of goodwill,’ revealed the 48-year-old.
Gardner also said there are ‘rough and smooth’ patches in their friendship and, ‘we were absolutely capable of having some robust discussions’.
Fans were sent into a tailspin following the announcement that Deborah Knight is set to replace Karl on the Today show, making history by turning the program into a female-run programme.
However the new look Today show has suffered poor ratings since it’s debut in on January 14.
Deb is said to be feeling less than welcome and is now having second thoughts about taking on the coveted role.
“There is too much pressure to save the show, too much pressure to win back viewers,” an industry insider tells New Idea.
Of the plummeting ratings, Deb discussed her views, saying: “That is for others to work at and worry about, my job is just turning up and being me,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
