Perfectly cooked bacon has to be one of life’s great pleasures. Too crispy and you feel like you’re crunching on salty chalk, too soft and you might as well be chewing on soggy rubber. Well, never fear – the secret to perfect bacon is here and it’s... water.
Frying your bacon in water is the key to getting delicious crispy bacon that doesn’t splatter the walls with grease. We have the folks over at The Kitchn for sharing the word on this nifty bacon trick.
While, yes, the idea that combining water and hot oil sounds like a recipe for disaster, it all comes down to pulling this technique off the right way. Thankfully, it’s very simple.
Use a nice big frying pan so that your bacon can fit comfortably, simply add enough water to the pan so that the bottom is covered with a shallow, even layer of water. Then, put the pan on medium heat and cook until the water boils and evaporates off.
As this happens, the fat renders means that once the water is boiled away there is no splattering grease to be seen and you’re left with tender, crispy bacon.
Turns out that for perfect bacon on your stove, just add water!
