A US mother whose 14-year-old daughter vanished five years ago claims her daughter has mailed a letter home.
Pam Massimiani, from Floria, took to her Facebook page to share that her daughter, Emily Paul, who would now be 19, made contact with her.
‘To all our friends and extended family, we want to let you know that we have heard from Emily,’ she said.
‘We do not have any further information to share at the moment. Thank you all for your love and support you have shown for our family.’
Bay County Sheriff Chief Deputy Joel Heape tells PEOPLE in a statement: ‘We are still looking to confirm that it is truly Emily Paul.’
Massimiani claims that the letter’s content makes her believe it is from her daughter, but is keeping the details out of the public.
She told the Panama City News Herald, ‘I’m pretty sure it’s from her.’
The last time Emily was heard from was in April 2013, when law enforcement and her family said she left a note stating her intentions were to run away.
The News Herald reports Emily’s disappearance was logged as a missing person’s case, and noted that she appeared to follow tips found on various websites that describe steps for a successful runaway.
When fleeing Emily took her Xbox but has never resurfaced on social media.
‘The ball is in her court still,’ Pam said. ‘There’s a lot of mixed emotions and a lot of feelings.’
