You might call it a Tim Tam Slam, a Tim Tam Explosion or a Tim Tam Bomb, but we call it delicious! As far as we’re concerned, it is the best way to enjoy the iconic Aussie biscuit.
If you’re not from these shores, a Tim Tam is two spiced chocolate cookies sandwiched together with a chocolate cream filling and coated in chocolate – yes, it’s heaven! A Tim Tam Slam is when you use your Tim Tam as a straw for a hot beverage. Here’s how to do it:
Pour coffee, hot chocolate or tea into your chosen drinking vessel. We recommend a wider-style mug or a tea cup.
Take bites from opposite corners of the Tim Tam. Ensure you bite far enough to break the biscuit, but still try to keep the bites small so you have maximum length for your Tim Tam ‘straw’.
Holding one of the un-bitten corners between your thumb and forefinger, slightly angle the Tim Tam so one bitten corner is pointing down.
Dip the Tim Tam in your hot drink and immediately SUCK SUCK SUCK from the exposed bitten corner until you get some of that tasty beverage.
From the moment liquid passes your lips, quickly eat your wonderfully melty Tim Tam before it collapses. As soon as it’s in your mouth, it will dissolve, releasing its gooey chocolatey centre. (Pro tip: flip the Tim Tam so the drink-dipped side is pointing up. That way the liquid will seep through the biscuit for more evenly distributed deliciousness.)
- You can use any flavour of Tim Tam you like, but a Double Coat Tim Tam will hold its form for the longest. However, you will need to make larger bites to get to the biscuit layer.
- On hot days, you can try this with a cold drink, such as iced coffee or plain milk. You won’t get the melty goodness, but your Tim Tam will hold its shape for longer so you can allow more liquid to seep through.
- For an adults-only version, try your Tim Tam Slam with Baileys.
