‘She agreed, but said she would do it for free and make it our wedding gift. I accepted and was so happy at her generosity. Our theme was A Night in Paris. So she asked for pictures of some ideas we had in ming. I sent her a few. She let me know what she could and couldn’t do. Mostly because she had to transport the cake herself. I trusted her and said I was sure it would look amazing no matter what she came up with.’
Sending over a picture of a wedding cake with an Eiffel Tower on top as well as other more traditional cakes, KC was hoping for a masterpiece along the same lines. But NOTHING could prepare her for what she saw at the reception.
‘I didn’t see the cake until it was time to cut it,’ KC writes on That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming. ‘She was upset when she had arrived because the colour didn’t come out the way she wanted. Our wedding colours were shades of purple.
‘She said the cake was purple, but at some point the in the night it turned blue. I let her know sh** happens and I wasn’t going to make a big deal about it. She said otherwise we would love it! Time came to cut the cake and I almost had a heart attack! WTF is this?!?!’
Sharing photos of the cake disaster - featuring three mismatched and lopsided cakes with ‘dodgy icing’, as one critic put it - KC says she was shocked.
‘Now I’m no fancy cake decorator, but even I could have done better,’ she writes. ‘It looks like one of those pictures you see of people trying to copy something on Pinterest and then hash tagging it with nailed it! She literally baked 3 circle cakes, frosted them, and put chocolate chips around as a border. The cake tasted good, but I’m not sure WTF happened to her mad decorating skills. I thanked her for doing it cause she did do it for free. She could have charged me a lot of money for this. Oh well! You get what you pay for I guess!’
