IKEA issues urgent recall of ceiling lamp

No receipt is required

IKEA has issued an urgent product recall of their Calypso ceiling lamps that were purchased after August, 2016. 

The product recall of the $49 ceiling lamp comes after reports emerged that the lamp was falling to the ground and shattering.

Customers have been urged to carefully remove the glass shade and check for a manufacturing date stamp.

Customers who have purchased a lamp numbered from 1625 to 1744 have been instructed to contact IKEA for either a full refund or replacement of product. 

No receipt or proof of purchases is required to gain the exchange or refund.

The Swedish furniture giant has warned that the ceiling lamp can fall and result in and “impact and laceration hazard.”

So far there have been 19 reported incidents of the popular ceiling lamp falling who two of the incidents resulting in “minor injuries”.

The hazard risk comes from people coming in contact with the broken glass after the lamp has fallen to the floor.

IKEA has apologised for the inconvenience in a statement released by the company: “IKEA apologise for any inconvenience and want to thank all customers for their understanding.”
