Mistake or markdown? That’s the question Australia is asking about this Fisher & Paykel 10kg front loader washing machine, which is being advertised for the very low price of $129.
Yes, you read that right!
The super cheap washing machine was spotted in the latest JB Hi-Fi catalogue by eagle-eyed shopper Debbie over at the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook page. Advertising the ‘10kg Front Load Washer’ along with ‘Free local delivery and bonus 4.2L Omo Liquid Detergent’ for just $129, it simply seems too good to be true - especially given that the model is usually worth around $1350.
Says Debbie: ‘It's obviously a misprint but worth a try to get one at this price. 😁’
And while it seems obvious that the markdown must be a catalogue typo, it’s sparked a spirited debate amongst bargain hunters on the Facebook page over whether JB Hi-Fi have to honour the price.
Says one: ‘Make them honour it !!! Beforehand going to print documents have to be proof read !! Obviously someone not doing their job!!’
Added another: ‘Wow ...I think they have to give it to you for that price unless they have put a misprint sign up, which they would get onto rather quickly. So best to pop into store asap if you’re after this bargain.’
Said a third: ‘If they haven't put an amendment in the front of the store then you are in with a good chance at getting it for that price.’
Added one more: ‘If you pay for it they have to give it at that price. They would be in a lot of trouble.’
However it seems JB Hi-Fi may have the law on their side with this one, if it was a printing error.
Says another: ‘You do realise there's print at the bottom of the catalogue that says any misprint etc do not need to be honoured.’
Another savvy shopper the law on such mistakes which says it’s up to each individual store to address the error, meaning they’re not compelled to honour errors in catalogues.
But it appears some shoppers won’t be deterred from trying to nab a bargain.
Said one Markdown Addict follower: ‘Just rang Fyshwich, Canberra store and it's a misprint and will be corrected on Thursday morning. However I'm still going to be at the store 15 mins before it opens to try my luck lol.’
