Who doesn’t love a margarita? Especially after a long day at the office or at home with the kids, nothing quite hits the spot like the classic Mexican cocktail.
But did you know that you could be doing a WHOLE LOT OF GOOD for your body by having a margarita here and there?
A new study by the American Chemical Society has found that there are some surprising health benefits to tequila, the main ingredient in the fabulous margarita - including lowering your cholesterol, helping with digestion and reducing your blood sugar levels.
Scientists say it all has to do with the agave plant – which is what tequila is made from – as it contains agavins, which are fabulous sugars that don’t raise your blood sugar when consumed.
As part of the study, researchers mixed the agavins with water and tested them on mice - with surprising results! It was found that mice who consumed the agavins actually ended up with lower blood sugar - leading to other benefits, such as improved cholesterol.
