We’ve all made a hundred toasted cheese sandwiches the usual way - whacking some cheese between slices of bread and heating until gooey.
But Jamie Oliver’s new way of making cheese sandwiches will make you rethink everything! The UK super chef has given his secret for taking cheese toasties to the next level, and it involves melting cheese on the OUTSIDE of the sandwich.
After grilling his cheese sandwich in a frying pan over a low to medium heat on both sides, Jamie removes the toastie before adding a handful of grated cheese to the entire base of the pan. He then waits for the cheese to melt and bubble before returning the cooked cheese sandwich back to the pan.
‘In the space of a minute and a half, it brings out completely different flavours,’ Jamie says.

After 90 seconds, Jamie then uses a spatula to lift the sandwich out of the pan and holds it in the air for another 30 seconds, so the melted cheese on the outside of the cheese falls down and hardens, creating a ‘crown’ effect.
‘I’d love to cook this for the Queen,’ Jamie laughs.
He then melts another handful of cheese in the very middle of the pan and waits for it to melt and bubble, before flipping the sandwich over and returning it to the pan.
