It looks like good news could be on the cards for residents of one NSW town, with Kmart confirming that a new store is still a possibility in their region.
Locals in the NSW town of Bathurst had been desperately hoping for a Kmart in their city centre, ending the need to drive to nearby town Oberon for all their Kmart needs.
And while Big W recently announced that 30 stores would close due to declining profits, new Kmart stores have been popping up left, right and centre across Australia - giving hope to Bathurst locals.
Well now they have another reason to keep their Kmart dreams alive, with a spokesperson telling The Western Advocate that a Bathurst store could still be on the cards.
‘We are always looking for new locations to bring people our everyday low prices, and that includes Bathurst,’ the spokesperson told The Western Advocate.
‘At this time we have no announcements, however, if this changes we will advise the community with a formal announcement.’
Angus Edwards, president of the Bathurst Business Chamber, agreed that a Kmart would be very welcome in the town.
‘With the concerns about closing some of the Big W stores we would never want to rule out getting these big department stores in town,’ he told The Western Advocate.
‘They are large employers and having them here makes Bathurst a bigger shopping destination for visitors from other towns.'
