A $7 wine has been crowned the best in Australia - proving that you don’t have to spend buckets of money to have a quality glass of plonk!
The Story Bay Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2017 pipped out 2,500 other wines to be named the best for under $20 at the Winestate Wine of the Year Awards.
The wine is exclusively made for Coles Liquor and is only available at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and Vintage Cellars.
It won first place after a rigorous 12-month blind-taste judging process by winemakers and wine experts, with head judge Peter Simic revealing that Story Bay stood out for its value and quality.
'It was pretty close but this wine had the highest rating out of all the tastings at the lowest price, it really deserved the trophy,' he told Daily Mail.
'For the amazing value price of $7, plus high blind judging score, this should be everybody's everyday drinking wine!'
The wine is made by Nocturne Wines in Western Australia, and Coles Acting Chief Executive Liquor and Hotels Cathi Scarce said the winery deserved the top gong.
'To have this recognition from some of the industry's top wine tasters is further evidence that we're getting it right by working with the best winemakers in Australia to deliver amazing quality wines at a great price,' Cathi revealed.
