The man who brought sexy back has just brought a new berry hybrid into existence. Well, sort of. Justin Timberlake broke the internet this week when he posted a video to Instagram, showing him rifling through a bowl of fruit and shoving a blueberry into a raspberry.
“Is it a coincidence that a blueberry fits in a raspberry perfectly?” he asks the camera. “I think not… ‘Braspberry’.” He then pops the berry double-act into his mouth while his pals chuckle along.
Whether you view this as the work of a culinary mastermind or a simple case of ‘been there, done that’, Timberlake’s 47.3 million Instagram followers think it’s pure genius. The vid has gone viral, with 3.3 million views and more than 5,000 comments in two days.
Food & Wine aren’t 100 per cent sold on the originality of the idea, but they reckon the marketing prowess behind the ‘braspberry’ moniker can’t be beat: “Frankly, as far as nicknames for shoving a blueberry into a raspberry are concerned, you probably won’t do much better than that.”
It’s not the first time that JT has sung the praises of the humble blueberry on his social media feed. Way back in January 2015, he posted this lush-looking pic of peanut butter and banana pancakes that his wife Jessica Biel whipped up in honour of Elvis Presley’s birthday. Who knew she had such talents at the pan?
If you’re feeling inspired to follow in their footsteps, make some braspberries and smother them in white chocolate sauce, or try this recipe for banana pancakes with bacon (the King would totally approve).
