As she recovers from abdominal surgery, Kate, 42, has been the subject of much online speculation, and theories ranging from frivolous to ominous.

Some more light-hearted commentary suggested the princess’ recent absence from royal duties was due to the fact that she was visiting the disastrous Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow.

Other more serious allegations posited that Kate had undergone a different procedure altogether, or that she is really missing.

Now, Prince William has responded to the online speculation.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the prince’s representative said: “(William’s) focus is on his work and not on social media.”

So far did the rumour flames spread that Kensington Palace was also forced to quell the fire with a statement earlier this month.

“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates,” a spokesperson told Page Six.

“That guidance stands.”

The royal representative also assured the public that Kate is “doing well” and will be out of action until after Easter.

Days after the Palace’s statement, Kate was spotted riding in the passenger seat of a black Volvo car driven by her mother, near Windsor Castle in the UK.

Princess Catherine’s planned abdominal surgery was announced to the public on January 17, with Kensington Palace explaining that the mum-of-three would be in hospital for two weeks.

Kate was officially discharged at the end of January, with the Palace releasing a statement assuring the public that the royal was making “good progress”.

“The Prince and Princess [of Wales] [also] wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided,” the statement read.

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”
