And one of the key ingredients to making the gravy? Is KFC’s “crackling” - otherwise known as the leftovers from the bottom of the chicken fryers.
In the footage, that is now going viral on TikTok, Ann calls it her “lovely crackling”, where she takes it and whisks it into water before she puts it into the microwave.
The clip has been viewed by over 80,000 TikTok users, and has garnered thousands of comments, with the revelation having left viewers shocked as many had no idea this was how the gravy was made.
Taking to the comments under the video, fans have shared their reactions to hearing about the recipe for the first time.
“Not having that gravy again,” one user wrote.
Another added: “That really put me off."
"I am horrified," said a third.
While the unknown detail has caught viewers by surprise, KFC has since broken its silence on whether or not the “crackling” method was used in Australia.
According to news.com.au, KFC Australia said that using drippings from roasting pans is apart of traditional gravy recipes.
“Our famous mouth-watering gravy is made the old-fashioned way and is another one of the Colonel’s famous recipes which we proudly serve our customers,” a spokesperson told the publication.
Other viewers have echoed that message, with many also taking to comment under the video that this is how "real gravy" is made.
"Not sure what everyone thought happened when gravy was made," a user said.
"Do people not know how gravy is made?" commented another.
Another user added: "That's how they make it."
