The KitKat V will be certified vegan and made from 100 per cent sustainable cocoa sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan.
Head of Confectionery at Nestlé Alexander von Maillot said: "One of the most common requests we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we're delighted to be able to make that wish come true.
“I can't wait for people to be able to try this amazingly tasty new KitKat. This is a product for everyone who wants a little more plant-based in their life!" he added in an official statement.
According to Nestlé, the company is planning on test-driving the new treat in the coming months by launching it in “several countries” – but at this stage, it remains unclear if Australia is on the list.
However, the website states there will be a wider global rollout of the product if the feedback from the initial launch proves to a hit with plant-based fans.
What's more, judging by the initial reactions on Instagram, it won't be too long before the chocolate bar hits Aussies shores.
“I will be ordering this 100%. This is a step in the right direction!! Amazing,” one enthusiastic fan wrote.
“Thank you. I’m #dairyfree and have always missed KitKats,” another person mused.
A third fan added: ” After 15 years of being vegan, Kit Kat’s were the last and only thing I missed that I couldn’t find a vegan version of. Thank you plant based gods for answering my fat prayers.”
Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center in York Louise Barrett said: "Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat.
“We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat."
