It’s been a favourite in many Australian homes for decades now, the perfect addition to any cup of tea.
But now a savvy shopper has noticed that Madeira Cake has suddenly gone missing from shelves at Woolworths, prompting a wave of concern.
Posting on Woolworths Facebook page, shopper Tim voiced his disapproval- accusing the supermarket giant of pulling the iconic cake from shelves for good.
Writes Tim: ‘Have you lot cancelled Madeira cake?? What the heck? What am I supposed to eat with my afternoon cuppa?
‘This is a joke. No community consultancy, no notice. I’m outraged.’
His post prompted a string of replied from other social medias and while some could see the lighter side of Tim’s post, others were just as ‘outraged’.
‘I too am appalled and dismayed,’ wrote one. Added another: ‘This is an outrage.’
Despite concern that Woolworths had pulled the Aussie favourite from shelves for good, a Woolies spokesperson says that’s not the case.
Replying to Tim, the spokesperson said: ‘We understand the outrage as one simply cannot go without their scrumptious cake during an afternoon cuppa. Not to worry, your Maderia cake will be back on your plate very soon.
‘We've had a temporary supply issue but they'll be back on shelves shortly - so keep an eye out!’
