After years of lobbying by various groups, McDonald’s have finally released a vegetarian Happy Meal option for little ones.
While mini vegetarians have had to long settle for a soft drink and some hot chips, McDonald’s in UK have answered the call and introduced the radical new Happy Meal.
And while the new vegetarian option isn’t available in Australian stores yet, there’s a good chance it could be on the way.
The new Happy Meal is made up of a veggie wrap, made up of ‘a red pesto goujon, tomato ketchup, and shredded lettuce, wrapped in a soft toasted tortilla.’ It’s believed McDonald’s worked with the Vegetarian society and the Britmums network to come up with the combination, using parents and children as taste-testers to select the final flavours.
The wrap is also technically vegan, but McDonald’s isn’t advertising it as such because the tortillas pass through the same toaster as their burger buns, which contain milk.

‘We’re really proud to have worked closely with McDonald’s for over 10 years and it’s great to see their veggie menu developing, especially as McDonalds tell us a third of their customers think it’s important to eat more veggie meals,’ Lynne Elliot, chief executive of the Vegetarian Society, told Metro.
‘There’s a growing demand for veggie food everywhere and it’s fantastic to see McDonald’s meeting the needs of their customers. It is especially important for young veggies to be able to choose something to eat when they are out with their friends.’
