Rivals Tully, Mark and Betty all share in family tragedy that has shaped their lives forever.

Opening up to New Idea, Queensland mum-to-be Tully reveals her mother sadly passed away after battling cancer.

‘My mum died when I was younger,’ the 30-year-old shares.

‘She died of melanoma when I was about 11 years old. It was sad, but I’ve had a lot of really good family support growing up and I’ve had every opportunity. I’m very lucky really.’

Meanwhile, Melbourne-based dad Mark, 32, was forced to fend for his family while growing up when his father fell ill.

‘My dad was working two jobs and working 16 hours a day,’ he says. ‘One day he woke up and his nervous system had shut down.

‘I had to step up, and whatever I earned had to go towards paying bills and stuff.’

For social media influencer Betty, her relationship with her father has become strained in recent years.

‘Dad is not in my life, but we do keep in contact,’ she says.

The 27-year-old’s parents divorced when she was 16, and Betty and her sister we left to care for their blind mother.

‘It was his choice to leave,’ Betty tells. ‘Mum and Dad never got along. They are very different.’
