In a new interview, Natalie Wood’s sister Lana has said she is certain Robert Wagner is responsible for the actress’s tragic death.
During an interview for Megyn Kelly Today earlier this week, Lana claimed her sister and Wagner got in a “bad fight” before Natalie’s death. Asked by Kelly if she thinks Wagner “murdered” her sister, Lana says, “Yes.”
The Hollywood icon, who would’ve turned 80 next week, tragically drowned on November 21, 1981, at 43-years-old. The actress was sailing with her husband Wagner, and fellow actor Christopher Walken, as well as the ships captain, Dennis Davern.
“I know exactly what happened from what Dennis has told me and from Natalie, who would not do certain things but would do other things,” her sister told Kelly. “[Wager and Natalie] had a fight. They had a bad fight. Dennis said it sounded like furniture was being thrown around.”
Wagner has repeatedly maintained he doesn’t know what happened to his wife, and believes she fell off the boat.
37 years later, Lana wants Wagner to ‘tell the truth for once and for all’ as she shares her own theory of what led to her death on the new podcast Fatal Voyage: The Mysterious Death of Natalie Wood.
Afterwards, Lana says Dennis told her that after he knocked on the couple’s door, Wagner “opened it a little bit and said ‘Mind your own business’ and shut the door again.”
Continuing she said: “Dennis then left, went outside, turned up the music because they were being so loud and started walking towards the boat. And when he turned that corner, got there, [Wager] was standing there and Dennis said, ‘Where’s Natalie?’ And he said, ‘She’s gone.’ ”
Lana also claimed that Wagner’s theory that Natalie fell off the boat while trying to board a dinghy doesn’t make sense as her sister was “terrified” of the water.
“That was thanks to our mom,” she said, explaining that their mother was told by a fortune teller “that she would have a child that would be known all over the world and that someone was going to die from drowning.”
“So my mom used to tell us that to keep us away from the water. And it really really hit Natalie,” Lana continued.
And in the podcast, Lana further elaborates: ‘I think the evidence is also not just what Dennis Davern, the captain, has said, but the broken wine bottle and the threat that was first denied by Robert Wagner and then later in another book that he wrote he admitted to it. I think that things got out of hand,’ she continued.
‘I know Natalie can verbally push, and Natalie was a very by-the-rules person. She did not put up with a great deal that she felt was harmful to her.’
‘I think it escalated to a point where she was either struck or pushed. I don’t believe that it was planned. I don’t believe in any of those bizarre stories, but I do know she would not have ended up somewhere where she would completely never, ever go in a million years or certainly not go out not dressed.
‘There’s just too much that doesn’t add up to who Natalie is.
