If you’re lactose intolerant, summer can be the hardest time to let go of cooling favourites like ice-cream and iced coffee. According to the Food Intolerance Institute of Australia, 2 in 3 Australians have a dairy intolerance – meaning there’s a lot of us struggling with a similar temptation in the heat.
While we recently heard that Ben & Jerry’s and Cornetto have released dairy-free ice-cream (hallelujah!), we’ve still had to queue up for expensive vegan iced coffee at local cafés or taken on the time-consuming task of making our own.
But there’s good news: California-based almond milk and coffee brand Califia Farms have just introduced a ready-to-drink cold brew coffee line featuring two new flavours.
XX Expresso, true to its name, has a double dose of caffeine, and Cocoa Noir has double the dark chocolate. That’s double the incentive to boost your energy at your next 3pm weekday slump (and something tells us chocolate bickies would make the experience even more delish!).
In the US, Califia have a range including special edition flavours such as salted caramel and pumpkin spice – is it too soon to start hoping for these, too?
These iced coffees contain 70% less sugar than their counterparts. They’re crafted with 100% Arabica beans, and are brewed using cold water, which removes any bitter aftertaste and leaves the final product with a hint of sweetness.
With all these new plant-based alternatives, we’re excited about all the options the lactose-intolerant have this summer. What do you want to see next?
Califia Farms XX Expresso and Cocoa Noir are available in supermarkets nationwide.
