With her lashings of butter, litres of cream and scant regard for calories, Nigella Lawson has long been one of our favourite cooks. And it seems Australia is a favourite of hers, too.
The domestic goddess is set to return to our shores in January to promote her 11th book, At My Table, and keen fans can catch Nigella at the Sydney Opera House as she hosts 'A Night In Conversation’. Nigella has timed her visit to coincide with the Australian summer, recently telling Daily Mail that she longs for an Aussie Christmas.
“My Christmas is a cold-weather affair, and I rather long to one day have an Australian one. I think that would be rather fabulous.”
While she may not be here for the big day, in typical Nigella fashion, she’s taken a classic Australian Christmas dish – the pavlova – and given it a twist, adding a surprising ingredient to the meringue base.
“I've got some black pepper and rosewater in the base and strawberries macerated in passionfruit to go on top of the cream — a bit of snowy England but also summery Australia,” she said.

Whether it’s using the term ‘quackling’ to describe crispy duck skin, or bringing a blush-inducing sensuality to the kitchen, it’s Nigella’s beguiling way with words that have made her such a hit. Which makes the prospect of listening to her in conversation at one of Australia's most iconic venues almost as exciting as the idea of trying her cooking… almost.
