‘They had 2 tins of baby formula each in their trollies, plus a massive amount of these squeezie puree pack things .... I know there is a limit on the formula in most supermarkets, but what about all the other baby food products???
‘Clearly they were not purchasing for themselves. They had a pre-meditated plan to approach multiple checkouts at the same time. I'm betting they bought every last one of these squeezie packs that the store had .....’
Bekka also posted a photo (at top of page) of one of the shopper’s haul, which shows what’s estimated to be more than 100 packets from the Only Organics baby food range in the trolley.
Bekka’s post prompted an angry response from fellow shoppers.
Said one: ‘This is bloody ridiculous!! Have some consideration for other family and children!!’
But despite the outrage, it appears there could be another reason behind the baby food haul. When New Idea Food popped into their local store, the Only Organics range had been drastically reduced - meaning the shoppers could’ve simply been stocking up on a bargain.
And a Coles spokesperson has confirmed to New Idea Food that there are heavy markdowns on some of their baby food range.
‘Coles is currently reviewing our baby food range and some products are currently marked down to make space for new products,’ the spokesperson confirmed. ‘It’s happening on a store by store basis and sales are based on stock volumes, so some stores might have lots and some stores might not have any.’
As for limiting the sale of baby formula per customer, the spokesperson said they were still working on ‘solutions to improve availability.’
‘Coles is committed to ensuring our customers have access to infant formula and as a result we are limiting sales quantities to two units per customer,’ the spokesperson said. ‘We are working with our suppliers on solutions to improve availability for customers.
‘Where formula is unavailable, we encourage customers to speak with their local store manager.’
