Getting started
To begin with, she and her partner cut all wheat and grains from their diet and “went back to what our ancestors ate.” Their regimen consisted of lots of healthy fats and they also started making a “bulletproof coffee” with MCT oil each morning. Throughout the process, they doubled their consumption of vegetables.
Ash’s day on a plate is:
First thing: Bulletproof coffee
8:30 Piccolo Latte
10:00 Pete Evans banana bread made with coconut flour or handful almonds
11:00 Guacamole with veggie sticks or paleo crackers
12:00 Big salad full of veggies, protein and lots and lots of olive oil
1:00 Handful of berries and four big tablespoons of coconut yogurt sometimes with granola
15:00 Peppermint tea
18:30 Stir fry with tamari, protein and lots and lots of veggies
19:30 2 squares of dark chocolate
20:00 Peppermint tea
Exercise
Ash explains “I don’t go to the gym every day, I go four times a week at most, for less than 40 minutes each time.” When she first started the paleo diet she and Dave would walk around Centennial Park four times a week or walk from Bondi to Bronte until she got a gym membership in September.
Results
Ash’s motivation for trying out the Paleo Diet was to improve her overall health and wellbeing. Some of the biggest changes were that cutting out wheat helped clear up her eczema and reduce her bloating.
Both Ash and Dave have lost 12kg each since starting the diet regimen and are loving not only the way that they look but how they feel.
What’s next
Nine months in she and her boyfriend are continuing their paleo lifestyle and loving it! “Without grains burdening your brain you function so well and I feel incredible!”
Ash’s long term goal “is to maintain this and I’m never going back to eating “normal”. This is my lifestyle.” And while she isn’t looking to lose any more weight she has set her goals on working towards a second row of abs!
