And look at the results! While some have simply recovered existing fireplaces with the brick wall wrap, others have gone to the effort of constructing elaborate fireplaces - some even with chimneys - to really get into the Christmas spirit.
Describing how she built her fireplace, one Kmart mum revealed: ‘Nappy boxes for side pillers, base and mantle are flat pack boxes and the chimney is baby wipe boxes. But any sturdy box will do.’ Ingenious!
And it’s no surprise that hundreds are jumping on the new trend.
‘Love this idea,’ said one fan. ‘Can’t wait to create my own at home - you’ve really inspired me!’
‘This is awesome I’m so going to try and do this!’ Said another: ‘I did this at home and my kids LOVE it!’
One clever Kmart mum created a mini version for her kids - while another took the fireplace to a whole new level to create a faux marble masterpiece!
‘My take on the cardboard fireplace,’ she told the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook group. ‘I used the brown craft paper and marble contact from Kmart (wasn't a fan of the brick wrap as it was a bit too orange for me) just need to add lights and a few more decorations and its ready for Santa's visit!’
