We all know the importance of ‘safe drinking’, but the latest product out of the United States takes the concept to a whole new level. The Wine Condom is here as a quirky way to seal that half-drunk bottle of wine (if such a thing ever exists in your house).
Available in a pack of six from Amazon, the Wine Condom comes in a black box with gold foil packaging designed to look just like the real deal. You can slip them into your handbag or wallet to whip out whenever the mood strikes – romantic picnics, sips on the beach, you get the idea.
While most of the wine we consume in Australia comes with a screwcap, we can see these coming in handy for bottles of bubbly and any cork-sealed reds you might have knocking around in your cellar. No more sticking a teaspoon in that half-empty bottle of sparkling wine.
The Wine Condom unrolls to fit snugly over the neck of the bottle, preventing accidental spills and creating a tight seal – the website claims to be “99% effective in preventing unplanned spillage”. And because the rubber sits flush with the rim of the bottle, you can store your bottle easily in the fridge door… unlike those bulky wine stoppers that are always just a tad too tall. After all, length isn’t everything.
We reckon they’d make a great gift for hen’s parties, secret Santas and wine lovers with a cheeky sense of humour. We’re not the only ones who think Wine Condoms are a hit. Apparently, a whole swag of celebrities love them, including Mila Kunis, Madonna, Amy Poehler and Sharon Stone.
And unlike a regular rubber, the Wine Condom is reusable, so you’re guaranteed to get more bang for your buck.
