Step 1: Mix flour, baking powder, butter and sugar together. Keep mixing until a crumb is formed.
Step 2: Whisk the eggs and buttermilk together.
Step 3: Add the liquid to the butter mix. Optional: add sultanas to the smooth dough.
Step 4: Flatten dough and cover. Rest for 30 minutes.
Step 5: Roll dough to a thickness of 2.5cm and cut into shapes of your choice. Leave dough to rest for another 20 minutes.
Step 6: Brush scones with eggwash.
Step 7: Bake for 10-12 minutes for 180 degrees Celcius until golden.
And you can't forget the most important step of all...
If you want to dine like a royal, you must serve your delicious scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Just make sure you spread them in the right order.
According to the Queen herself, one must put jam first and then the cream, as it is the traditional Cornish method.
