This is apparently the right way to cut a cake

Start baking! You're going to want to try this. - by Olivia Hart

This is the right way to cut a cake, according to this viral TikTok hack

We’ve all been that person who’s in charge of cutting the cake at a party but can’t figure out how to do it. Do you cut from the middle, the side, or just cut in all in half? It seems there are too many ways to complicate such a simple task.

Well, TikTok user @southern_living showed the internet her way of cutting a cake and over 3.8 million TikTokers have watched on. Some in agreeance, and others, well not. According to @southern_living all you need for this little birthday hack is a bit of math, who knew?!

“Instead of slicing on an angle like you would a pie, cut the cake in half first, then divide the halves into four equal sections,” she says.

“You’ll then be able to cut eight even pieces from each side of the cake, instead of guessing how big the wedges are going to be”.

“This trick is used by wedding planners to get the most out of cakes and it has been proven by mathematics as the right way to do it”.

We’re not too sure how legitimate her claims are, and neither are TikToker’s who have a few things to say. With pastry chefs, math teachers, and wedding co-ordinators all jumping in to give their two cents.

With one commenting ‘The math teacher in me is freaking out over saying this is mathematical yet the pieces are not equal sizes!’

Another user writes, ‘Why didn't you cut along the lines?! that was so unsatisfying.’

Others suggest an alternative cake cutting method, which involves cutting a circle out of the middle then cutting the slices.

We’re not sure which cake cutting method is the right one but we’re certainly glad someone's trying to figure it out for the rest of us. Not that you need a reason to buy or make a cake today, but you might want to test out this hack before making any decisions. Besides, there are worse ways to spend a day than eating cake!
