Ingredients
¾ cup self-raising flour
¾ cup plain flour
½ cup caster sugar
125g cold unsalted butter, chopped
½ cup milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
385g can sliced apple pie fruit
¾ cup Nestle Top’n’Fill caramel
1 teaspoon sea salt flakes
TOPPING
¼ cup plain flour
¼ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
25g butter, finely chopped
Method
-
Grease an 18cm x 28cm rectangular slice pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, extending paper 3cm above pan edges.
-
Process flours, sugar and butter in a food processor until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in milk and egg until combined.
-
Spread two-thirds of the mixture over base of prepared pan. Top evenly with apple.
-
Whisk caramel and salt in a bowl until smooth. Dollop spoonfuls over apple. Then spoon remaining base mixture over top.
-
To make topping, place flour, sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Rub in butter with fingertips to form fine crumbs. Sprinkle over top of slice.
-
Cook in a moderate oven (180C) for about 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown and just firm to touch in the centre. Remove. Stand in pan for 20 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board.
-
Cut warm slice into squares. Serve with cream.
TIP! Slice can be made up to three days ahead. Keep in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave before serving.
